Mayweather vs Pacquiao: Manny will be slaughtered by Floyd

By Manuel Perez - Okay, so it’s pretty clear that the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao bout is going to be a huge money maker for the boxing world. I don’t think anyone questions that for a second. I wish I could say that this fight will end up being close or even slightly competitive because I just don’t see that happening.

Pacquiao doesn’t have the boxing ability that Mayweather has and is way over his head in this fight. I want to see the bout, of course, but it still is going to be a one-sided fight just the same. Pacquiao doesn’t have the schooling or the talent to beat a skilled technician like Floyd Mayweather Jr. Today is Thanksgiving and I’m thankful that the next year we’ll be able to clear up the hype about a lot of these so-called great fighters and see what’s what.

And I think the hype train for Pacquiao ends next year with a slaughter of a beat down by Mayweather. I know I got my prediction wrong with the Cotto-Pacquiao fight, but I see that as a product of the catch weight that Cotto, the World Boxing Organization welterweight champion, signed on for by agreeing to fight at a 145 pound catch weight.

I wouldn’t have done it if I was in the same boat as Cotto. I would have told Pacquiao and his trainer Freddie Roach to go fly a kite rather than give in and fight at a lower weight than is fitting for the title. It wouldn’t have mattered to me. I would have continued to defend my WBO title for years to come and made all the money that I would have gotten in the Pacquiao fight. Anyway, Cotto blew it by agreeing to fight at the catch weight and it’s his fault for doing it. But I know Mayweather is going to totally outclass Pacquiao and make him look like a hopeless amateur when they do fight.

The only thing that is stopping the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight from taking place is the two sides agreeing to the particulars during the negotiation process. As long as Mayweather, the unbeaten fighter and the one that I consider to be the big star in the U.S., gets the bigger slice of the pie in the pay-per-view revenue there shouldn’t be any problems negotiating for the fight.

But if Pacquiao stubbornly refuses to accept the smaller cut, we’ll have problems making the fight. Pacquiao should be happy taking the smaller cut. At least he’s fighting a great fighter and getting a piece of the action by having Mayweather deem to fight him rather than choosing someone else. To me, it’s a no brainer. This is a great fight for Pacquiao and he should accept the smaller cut and then we can get the date and location for the fight worked out.

I don’t like Pacquiao’s chances in the fight. Mayweather is going to be dancing all over the Filipino’s head all night long, picking Pacquiao off with saber-like right hands and left hooks to the head that is going to have Pacquiao’s face looking bloody and swollen by the midpoint of the fight.
Okay, so Pacquiao won’t have a chance in this fight and will have to re-examine his priorities after the terrible beating. My recommendation is that Pacquiao retire and settle into a nice domestic life or maybe consider going for a career in politics in his native Philippines.

There’s really no where to go after the Mayweather fight. There would be no point in fighting a rematch with Mayweather because this fight is going to be a one-way beating for Mayweather and I can’t see it being any different. I’d like to see Pacquiao fight a rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez, because they have unsettled business together. But I doubt Pacquiao will want to mix it up with Marquez again after the last fight, which Pacquiao had all kinds of problems with the great Mexican fighter.
